Around 1797 or 1798 Ballwin Founder, John Ball, moved to the West St. Louis county area at about the same time as the Daniel Boon party settled in the St. Charles area. Records show approximately 400 acres of land along Grand Glaze Creek was transferred to John Ball in February of 1800 which is the first official record of John Ball in the west county area. Since Ball's property claim was originally derived from a Spanish land grant, the Louisiana Purchase raised doubts about the property ownership. After several hearings and appeals over a 10 year period, John Ball cleared his claim to the land that eventually became the town of Ballwin. What is now known as Manchester Road was the original "overland" mail route between St. Louis and the new capitol in Jefferson City at that time and helped establish the city of Ballwin.
The City of Ballwin was incorporated in 1950 and has 31,283 residents located in the heart of West St. Louis County. This growth, while primarily fueled by the migration of residents from the City of St. Louis to a suburban location, has blossomed into a first class community. The triple A rated schools, diverse residential, business and commercial development make this an excellent community in which to live, work and raise a family.
