Lake St. Louis started in 1966 as a private weekend recreational lake community. In 1967 St. Charles County approved the preliminary plan and construction of the dam for the 600 acre larger lake began in 1968 and was completed in 1973. In 1975 the residents of the Harbor Town petitioned St. Charles County Circuit Court for incorporation of the Town of Harbor Town which was granted. A census conducted in 1976 that counted 2,445 residents who voted to change the name to Lake St. Louis.
The Community of Lake St. Louis
Today there are about 12,000 residents in the 8.3 square mile community with 2 lakes of 550 and 75 acres available to residents. Lake Forest Country Club is home to the 18-hole championship golf course, there are beaches, tennis courts, pools, and more. Located between I-70 to the north and Highway 64 to the south access is simple and convenient and about a 45 minute drive to downtown St. Louis.
Lake St. Louis is served by the Wentzville School district www.wentzville.k12.mo.us which is praised as one of the best districts in the state of Missouri.
